Wee Gillis, a Scottish boy, spends a year with his mother’s family down in the lowlands, and the next with his father’s family up in the highlands. In the lowlands, he is taught how to herd cattle by calling them in. In the highlands, he is taught how to stalk stags by walking as quietly as possible and holding his breath. There comes a time when Wee Gillis is faced with a decision to make: does he want to spend the remainder of his life in the lowlands or the highlands? Will he be ready to make the choice when the time comes? Some of the activities in this unit are Fine Art Hatching, making oatmeal, and weaving.
