Jan Brett painted detailed illustrations of a Scandinavian farm to bring to life this witty story about a curious hedgehog who finds a girl’s woolen winter stocking. All the animals are in an uproar over Hedgie’s new hat, but poor Hedgie just wants to go home to his den. Make sure to look closely at all of the details Jan weaves into the illustrations - especially the border illustrations that show additional elements of the story. Some of the activities in this unit are building a hedgehog den out of blocks, making apple cider, and making a recycled craft hedgehog.
