Mossy spends her days by Lilypad Pond where the moist environment encourages a garden of moss, ferns, and delicate flowers to grow upon her carapace. One day, she encounters a handsome male turtle, but just as they meet, Dr. Carolina snatches up the beautiful turtle specimen for her museum. Mossy makes the museum famous with her extravagant garden shell, but she misses her beloved, peaceful home and her new friend. Dr. Carolina’s niece, Tory, notices Mossy’s discontentment, and a plan is made for Mossy’s return to Lilypad Pond. Some of the activities in this Book-A-Week unit are making Egg Carton Turtles, building a block museum, and decorating a turtle carapace.
